I've tracked my own finances in a spreadsheet since I was 18, when I started working. Living with my partner, we kept our shared money on a whiteboard: who bought what, then we'd settle up at the end of the month. The catch is that splitting everything 50/50 isn't fair when one person earns more, so we'd do it by proportion of income. I wanted to make that part of life easier, so I built Parejo to do it automatically.

Parejo splits household expenses by what each person earns, tracks income and fixed costs, and keeps a shared board. It's also my first mobile app, the project where I'm learning that whole world, and I'm happy with how it turned out. It's on the App Store now, with Google Play next.

Parejo

What made it hard

  • Splits expenses by each person's income, not 50/50, plus tracking for income, fixed costs, and a shared board.
  • Web and native mobile from one monorepo, sharing tokens, schemas, and types so the two never drift.
  • My first mobile app, now published on the App Store, with Google Play next.
